The people who built Electron for Atom now say a code editor is the worst possible use for it. They hit the wall in 2017, when the problem stopped being their own ignorance and became the platform. Zed is the rewrite in Rust with custom GPU shaders. Nathan says VS Code has taken Electron about as far as it will go. The team that made the platform just called it a dead end.
