“After five years of development, Zed reaches 1.0 with stable APIs, plugin support, and a finalized collaboration protocol.”
Zed promised a fast, native, multiplayer code editor and spent five years actually shipping it. Most editor projects ship a hot reload demo and die. Zed shipped a kernel-level rendering engine, a custom scripting language, and a working real-time collaboration stack. Whether anyone moves off VS Code in numbers is a separate question. The thing exists, which is more than most ambitious editors achieve.
