The fix for 2038 is old. Make time_t 64 bits and you’re good for 292 billion years. The bug lives in the copy-paste. Microsoft’s own documentation carried a snippet that squeezed the time through a 32-bit multiply. Every developer who copied it shipped the bug without knowing.
