Yahoo fires 1,000 people today and another 600 in six months, gutting half its ad tech business. The company is profitable on about $8 billion a year. Private equity firm Apollo paid $5 billion for it in 2021, and it just signed a 30-year deal handing native ads to Taboola, where it now owns a near 25% stake. This is not a downturn. It is a buyout doing what buyouts do.
