“With a custom domain you can easily move your entire fediverse connection to any host at any time.”
Every WordPress.com plan can now publish to Mastodon and pull fediverse replies back in as comments. The free tier gets an alias like openprotocolfanblog.wordpress.com@openprotocolfanblog.wordpress.com. Portability, the point of an open protocol, requires buying a domain. WordPress.com took the fediverse’s best feature and put it behind the domain upsell.
