“Wine 11.0 ships with full Wayland support, improved ARM64 emulation, and better DirectStorage compatibility.”

Wine has been the unsung hero of Linux on the desktop for thirty years. Without it there is no Steam Deck, no Proton, no Linux gaming as a paying market. The 11.0 release fills in the remaining gaps that mattered, ARM and Wayland in particular. The team is small, the funding is precarious, and the code base is one of the most underappreciated pieces of infrastructure on the open web.
