The antivirus that ships with Windows is good enough for most people. The catch is that its strongest settings sit behind PowerShell and a Group Policy Editor that Home users don’t even get by default. Microsoft built the protection and then hid the switches. Paid antivirus vendors are happy to keep selling the difference.
