“So the researchers developed an algorithm to manipulate the frequency of Wi-Fi’s data transmission signals to match the signals that the LoRa device uses to communicate with other devices.”
WiLo bends Wi-Fi’s OFDM signal into LoRa chirps so an ordinary Wi-Fi radio can talk to an off-the-shelf Semtech LoRa transceiver. The tests topped out at 500 meters with 96% delivery. The catch is extra power draw on the Wi-Fi side, and LoRa exists to save power. Calling it a standard is generous for a journal paper.
