“Between crashes, on measuring the performance, the responsiveness is significantly worse than browsing a BBS with an 8 MHz 286 and a 1200 baud modem.”
A Tecno Spark 8C sells for $50 to $60 in Nigeria and runs PUBG at 40fps. Scrolling a text forum on it drops below 0.4fps, and Discourse sometimes crashes the browser outright. The CPU is something like 100,000x faster than a 286, and the modern web still loses to a BBS. Sites tune their PageSpeed scores instead of their pages, and the people who pay are everyone not holding a MacBook.
