Microsoft turned the AI marketing problem into a developer’s compliance problem. Now every commit on every project hosted at GitHub looks like Copilot helped, whether it did or not. Lawyers and licensing committees will spend the next year sorting out what those trailers mean for code provenance. Microsoft will not pay for any of it.
