“I would like to dedicate the upcoming Vim 9.0 release to Sven in his memory.”
Sven Guckes was a student in Berlin when he helped build Vim in the Nineties. He ran vim.org and did the unglamorous work that keeps a volunteer project alive for decades. Open source runs on people like him, and almost nobody outside the project learns their names.
