Alan Gebert of Millville, Utah bought a 1991 Geo Metro for $7,000 hoping it would last until retirement. It lasted 34 years with no car payments and 30-50 mpg. Years ago he promised that if he ever grew a pumpkin heavier than the car, he would drop it from a crane. His 1,917-pound gourd won first place at the Utah Giant Pumpkin Festival, so he donated the engine to a mechanic and took the rest to Hee Haw Farms, where spectators watched the pumpkin cave in the roof from nearly 14 stories up.
