“The UK and Brazil launched a ‘Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator’ to drive rapid cuts in methane, HFCs, and air pollutants across 30 developing countries by 2030.”
At a methane summit during COP30, the UK and Brazil announced an initial $25 million to help 30 developing countries reduce super pollutants including methane and hydrofluorocarbons. Methane traps far more heat than CO2 over shorter timescales, making rapid cuts an effective way to slow near-term warming. The summit also launched FIRST, the first coordinated South-South platform linking countries across Latin America, Africa, and Asia to share low-cost emission reduction solutions.
