“The native implementation will drastically improve editor startup, reduce most build times by 10x, and substantially reduce memory usage.”
Microsoft is porting the TypeScript compiler to Go and claims 10x faster builds. VS Code’s editor load drops from 9.6 seconds to 1.2. TypeScript 6 stays on JavaScript while 7 goes native, so two codebases run side by side. Large projects currently trade startup time for a complete view of their code.
