“TAIPEI – Contract chipmaking giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. told clients Wednesday that it plans to raise prices on products by as much as 20%, in what would be the company’s steepest single increase.”
This comes on top of a 10% increase since last fall. When one company makes most of the world’s advanced chips, a shortage is a pricing opportunity. Every phone, car and console maker will pass it on. Concentrating a whole industry on one island had a cost, and this is the invoice.
