“Inside the FPGA, the CPU core runs at 100 MHz.”
An FPGA board the size of the original 40-pin chip drops into the CPU socket of an Apple II or a chess computer. It copies the RAM and ROM inside itself and runs them at 100 MHz. The original ran at around 1 MHz. The best use anyone has found so far is making 1980s chess computers think faster.
