Guy ran his own git server for 15 years. AI scrapers killed it. Millions of 404 responses didn’t slow them down. Apache logs filled the disk faster than logrotate could clean them. So he surrendered and moved everything to GitHub and GitLab. The scrapers won. The irony is thick. The AI companies strip-mining the open web for training data are destroying the exact infrastructure that made open source collaboration possible in the first place. They don’t care. They never will.
