“This data rate is more than 1,000 times higher than that of the radio-frequency links traditionally used for satellite communication and the highest ever achieved by a laser link from space to ground.”
A payload the size of a tissue box hit 100 gigabits per second from a CubeSat 300 miles up. That is a thousand times what radio links do. The catch is clouds. Lasers don’t go through them, so the downlink works great until the weather changes.
