Tanenbaum wrote MINIX in 1987 as a teaching aid for his textbook. It inspired Linux, taught generations of students and now ships inside popular microchips. The ACM recognized it 37 years later. The press release gives one clause to the microchips, and that clause is the biggest deployment in the story.
