“Since this was going to be the first Linux Rust GPU kernel driver, I had a lot of work ahead!”
The Rust driver work started August 18. By September 24 it drew its first cube, and days later it ran a full GNOME desktop. Apple published zero documentation for any of it. A handful of volunteers reverse engineered a GPU faster than most vendors ship a driver for hardware they designed. That’s also the best argument yet for Rust in the kernel.
