“Monthly paid plans now include three free users, and bill you only for additional users who actively exchange data over Tailscale (“usage-based billing”) rather than for a fixed number of seats.”
Tailscale’s own data showed single-user tailnets growing exponentially and multi-user ones only linearly. The gap is friction: getting a coworker to install it. So the fix is three free users per paid plan and billing only for people who actually move data. This is not generosity. It is a growth hack aimed at the one curve that refuses to bend.
