One version manager per language is how you end up with four shims fighting over your PATH. asdf replaces all of them with one tool and a plugin per runtime. The catch is the workflow you lose, and he had to hand-roll his own virtualenv functions to get it back. Still beats waiting on nvm every time a terminal opens.
