“The police department, claiming the posts had disrupted its operations, launched an investigation and ultimately searched Novak’s apartment, arrested him and jailed him for four days.”
Anthony Novak ran a parody Parma Police Facebook page for 12 hours and six posts. The cops raided his apartment, jailed him for four days and charged him. A jury acquitted him. The Supreme Court won’t let him sue because no earlier case “clearly established” that mocking police is protected speech. Qualified immunity means the first cop to break a rule always gets a pass.
