Teledesic had Bill Gates behind it and never launched an operational satellite. Five years in, SpaceX has launched more than 6,500 Starlink satellites and they make up most of the working satellites in orbit. One analysis puts 2024 revenue at $6.6 billion, but free cash at only about $600 million after building and launching. SES buying Intelsat for $3.1 billion is what losing to Starlink looks like.
