“Over the next six months, Matlock got nearly 1,300 similar emails from Gaggle, a surveillance company that monitors students’ school-issued Google and Microsoft accounts.”
Minneapolis paid Gaggle more than $355,000, some of it federal pandemic relief, to read students’ documents and chats. Only about a quarter of the alerts came during school hours. The rest came at night, on weekends and over the summer. It was sold as a remote learning necessity. Now classes are back in person and the surveillance stays.
