An operation built a fake Connor Tumbleson from his public profiles, a lookalike email and a fake Upwork account. Then it hired stand-ins at $60 to $80 an hour to sit his interviews. Its Slack had 35 members. Remote hiring trusts a résumé and a Zoom face, and both are now for rent.
