MacKay ruled out most of Britain’s renewables in 2008 as too expensive or too unpopular, and kept one-seventh of the technical resource. An Oxford team now puts solar and wind at 2,895 TWh a year against 1500 TWh of demand in 2050. Only 12% of the public object to an onshore wind farm nearby. The physics didn’t change. The prices did.
