“Appelbaum also provides some new information about the Snowden documents in general, by saying that The Intercept “closed their Snowden archive and reportedly it has been destroyed.” (page 63, note 17)”
The new Snowden details surfaced in a 327-page PhD thesis, not a newspaper. Appelbaum writes that journalists on the archive know far more than they published and that most of the NSA backdoors unknown in 2013 are still unknown. Then comes the footnote that The Intercept closed its archive and reportedly destroyed it. Snowden risked his freedom to get the files out, and the outlet holding them reportedly shredded what it never published.
