John Connor’s ATM hack is a serial cable and some foil on a debit card. It never worked. Someone decoded the scrolling numbers from the film anyway and rewrote the fake in Turbo Pascal so it would run on a Portfolio. He stopped short of buying one on eBay, which is the only sensible decision in the whole project.
