One fake account with fake contact details sent more than 70 bogus notices in eight days. Shopify processed them automatically and handed out 52 strikes to at least twenty perfume shops. Counternotices take up to two weeks, and merchants who don’t know to file one can lose their whole store. The DMCA punishes the accused on sight and the accuser only if someone sues a John Doe.
