A Cruise car drove through caution tape on Clay Street, snagged a Muni wire and dragged it up the block. The fire department counts 44 robotaxi run-ins with fire scenes this year, double last year’s tally. The city admits it lacks detailed data, and SFMTA started counting only in April 2022. Cruise and Waymo grade their own safety record while the fire chief counts hoses.
