“One of the big reasons for this is the unit limit Samsung put on orders, which was a paltry seven parts per repair shop per quarter.”
Kyle Wiens says most independent shops do seven Samsung repairs a day, and Samsung capped them at seven parts a quarter. Screens and batteries came glued together and sold as one part, so a tech had to replace both to fix either. Wiens can’t name the prices because his Samsung contract forbids it. Samsung’s green microsite still links to Galaxy Upcycling, a program that died after its launch demo.
