Drop the tank by 10 degrees Celsius and California two-spot octopuses rewrite over 20,000 mRNA sites within hours. Most of it happens in the nervous system. Humans can edit about 3 percent of their mRNA and use even less. The octopus patches its brain at runtime instead of waiting for evolution to ship an update.
