Redis dropped BSD and now exists three ways: Redis under the new license, Valkey under BSD with former contributors from AWS and others, and Redict under GPL. Elasticsearch and Terraform ran the same play first. The company relicensed suddenly, consulted nobody, and the community that made it worth owning walked out with the code. Redis kept the name and gave away the reason anyone used it.
