Starting with 7.4, Redis drops the three-clause BSD license for RSALv2 and SSPLv1. The company says the largest cloud providers take most of its commercial sales and commoditize the work. Fifteen years of outside contributors gave code under BSD, and now one company gets to sell licenses for it. “Nothing changes for the Redis developer community” is what every relicensing announcement says.
