“PowerCo recently completed an endurance test with QuantumScape’s solid-state cells and determined they can someday power EVs that can drive 500,000 kilometers with virtually no loss of range.”
PowerCo is Volkswagen’s battery subsidiary, and Volkswagen is one of QuantumScape’s largest investors. The cells ran over 1,000 charge cycles and kept over 95% of their capacity, against an industry target of 700 cycles and 20% loss. That is a lab result from a company that has worked on this for over a decade and still has no scaled production. The word doing all the work is “someday.”
