“We’re seeing ALL of these failures happen after 6 months, which means we do expect elevated failure rates to continue for the foreseeable future and possibly even after Intel issues the microcode patch.”
Some game studios and cloud gaming providers report failure rates upwards of 50% on Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen chips. Puget sees 5-7 field failures a month because it ignores motherboard defaults and follows Intel’s own power specs, at a 1-2% performance cost. Intel’s microcode patch is expected to prevent the degradation, not reverse it. Puget extended its warranty on affected CPUs to three years. Intel hasn’t even officially addressed the degradation.
