Pike, Thompson and Ritchie built Plan 9 to fix what Unix got wrong about networks. Unix won anyway because it was already everywhere. Bell Labs is now handing the copyright to the Plan 9 Foundation. Thirty years late, the better design finally gets a license anyone can use.
