A company formed after the patent had already expired sued SparkFun over it. SparkFun fought back with older patents that predated the claim, and the troll dropped the case. The defense still cost $12,645. Texas Instruments, Asus and Netgear are on the list of companies the same troll went after. Every settlement funds the next lawsuit.
