“In a Harvard trial, OpenAI’s o1 outperformed emergency room triage doctors on initial diagnostic accuracy by twelve to seventeen percentage points.”
The triage doctor is the most overworked person in the building, working twelve hour shifts on six hours of sleep, looking at a patient for ninety seconds. The AI looks at the same chart for as long as it needs and is not tired. So it does better. The result says nothing about doctors and everything about how badly we have broken the job we put them in.
