The deal was announced as a done thing, the press cycle treated it as a done thing, and now it turns out it was a press release dressed up as a contract. OpenAI cannot pay $100 billion for chips. Nvidia cannot deliver chips that do not exist yet. The two companies have a shared incentive to pretend the agreement is real until the next funding round. After that, who knows.
