“We just destroyed our first 1400 CO2e tons of refrigerant and expect to scale our work 100x by the end of 2023.”

Leaking refrigerant accounts for roughly 6 percent of global warming, and almost nobody bothers to capture it. Recoolit pays technicians in Jakarta to bring it in so it can be destroyed, then sells the result as carbon credits for $75 a ton. The fine print says certification takes 6 to 12 months and might never happen. You are buying unverified credits from the company that minted them.
