The revised NO FAKES Act started as a deepfake bill and turned into a censorship infrastructure project. It now targets the tools used to create unauthorized images, mandates upload filtering with minimal safeguards, and lets anyone unmask anonymous users through court clerk subpoenas with no judicial review. Congress just passed the “Take It Down” bill that addresses similar concerns with less collateral damage. This is a solution looking for a problem that already got solved, except this version also kills anonymous speech and raises the compliance bar high enough that only Big Tech can afford to clear it.
