“Keeping the bucket as it is and paying it in full ($9k/month at the moment, steadily rising as the cache keeps growing)”
LogicBlox paid for cache.nixos.org for years until Infor bought it, and now the foundation has until July 1 to find about $9,000 a month. Moving to Cloudflare R2 costs a fixed $32,000 for the migration alone. The cheap option is garbage-collecting up to 70% of the cache, which means deleting history people depend on. One sponsor leaving put the whole distro’s binary cache on a four-week clock.
