Immunity means the case ends early. A defense means you litigate for three years and then win. For anyone smaller than Meta that difference is the whole ballgame, because the cost of defending is the punishment. The statute says no cause of action may be brought, which is not ambiguous language. A clever plaintiff now just has to plead that the site encouraged the illegality and everybody buys a discovery process.
