“The newly discovered corpus was acquired by the Mexican government from a local family that wants to remain anonymous, but which were not collectors but rather traditional stewards of the cultural legacy of Culhuacan and Iztapalapa”

Mexico’s INAH unveiled three codices from San Andrés Tetepilco, now inside Mexico City’s Iztapalapa borough. One is a pictographic history of Tenochtitlan from its founding to 1603, in the same family as the Boturini and Aubin codices. Another is a church inventory, badly damaged. The institutions did not preserve them. A local family did, and the government bought them.
