Retool gave Faker $500 a month. Then two Retool engineers signed up for the author’s paid Faker Cloud, and a few weeks later Retool launched the same thing for free. Its version even hotlinked avatar images from his servers. A $75 million startup bought goodwill for $2,000 and took the product idea at no extra charge.
