An attacker got into the payroll system for British active and reserve forces and recently retired veterans. It held names, bank details and some addresses. Grant Shapps stressed it was a contractor’s system “completely separate” from the MoD network, as if outsourcing the payroll outsources the blame. The contractor shows “potential failings,” and 270,000 service members pay for them.
