Meta already carries 10% of fixed and 22% of mobile internet traffic. Now it wants a 40,000 km cable it owns outright, starting at $2 billion and heading past $10 billion. Meta already co-owns 16 carrier consortium cables, and this one has no partners. The internet’s backbone is turning into private driveways for the companies that run the biggest ad networks.
