“A former Kansas police chief who led a raid last year on a weekly newspaper has been charged with felony obstruction of justice and is accused of persuading a potential witness to withhold information from authorities when they later investigated his conduct.”
Gideon Cody raided a weekly paper in a town of 1,900 people over a driving record that reporter Phyllis Zorn looked up legally in a state database. Special prosecutors found no crime by Zorn, Eric Meyer or the paper. Cody faces one obstruction count and nothing for the raid itself. Meyer expects a plea deal, which means no trial and no full story.
